Throughout the year, unique celebrations will happen in many of our 199 neighborhoods, public spaces and parks, colleges and universities, and offices all around the city. This is an all call and a giant invitation for everyone to celebrate CLT250 in their own way. Special anniversary celebrations will take place at these events:

MLK Parade and Weekend of Events

Celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, through a series of community events including the Saturday parade, scholarship luncheons at CPCC and Johnson C. Smith University, a wreath-laying ceremony and the McCrorey YMCA Prayer Breakfast.

This original work, commissioned by the CSO, depicts and honors through music, words and images, the textile mill culture that dominated the economy of the Piedmont region of the Carolinas and the Southeast from the late 19th through the 20th centuries.

The 7th Annual Hola Charlotte Festival will be hosted by Norsan Media in partnership with various Uptown cultural organizations. This is the largest Hispanic Heritage event organized in Charlotte highlighting Latin American culture and all its richness. The event engages both general market and Hispanics of all backgrounds and ages. It features nationally recognized entertainers and a Latin American cultural village highlighting the heritage and culture of 15 Latin American countries - providing an avenue for sponsors to brand their products. Hola Charlotte Festival is highly publicized through multiple partners, a robust press campaign, and an extensive Hispanic media campaign via Norsan Media's multiple platforms.

Local nonprofit organization, Queen City Unity, presents the 2nd Annual Charlotte UNITE Festival. This multicultural event looks to unite people of all backgrounds in Charlotte to celebrate our diversity, and illustrate to the rest of the nation that the Queen City stands UNITED. The free family orientated festival includes musical performances from local artists of all backgrounds, food from different cultures in Charlotte, a Kids Zone, and community guest speakers that you will not want to miss. Handel's "Water Music," "Music for the Royal Fireworks" and choral anthem "Zadok the Priest," plus Hubert Parry's anthem "I was glad" and William Walton's march "Crown Imperial." It's all music for royal occasions in Great Britain, from George I ("Water Music," the most ebullient piece written for a king) through George VI ("Crown Imperial," commemorating the coronation of Elizabeth II's dad). Members of the Charlotte Symphony Chorus will get a workout in the two rousing anthems.

UNC Charlotte Celebrates CLT250

J. Murrey Atkins Library will host a campus-wide celebration of Charlotte's 250th anniversary on Monday, Dec. 3, the official date of the founding of the Queen City. From 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., students can enter a drawing to win prizes by participating in several fun activities.

For over 30 years, the non-profit Charlotte Wine & Food Weekend has brought together leading winemakers from around the world and paired them with the area's top chefs to celebrate and advance public knowledge of and appreciation for great wine and food, while making significant contributions to charitable organizations that benefit children and their families in the Charlotte community. Proceeds for 2019 benefit five local charities; Charlotte Concerts, Pat's Place, Mitchell's Fund, The Relatives and The Council for Children's Rights. The Mecklenburg Historical Association is dedicated to preserving and publicizing the history of Mecklenburg County through regular meetings, publications, special research groups and work with various historic sites. Founded in 1954 it is the successor to several similar organizations going back to 1875. Today the MHA is a vibrant organization which meets four times each year to share a meal and hear an interesting speaker. Various permanent committees meet at other times to do their work in implementing the goals of the MHA. Celebrating Neighborhood Accomplishments With a City of Charlotte Neighborhood Grant During the CLT 250th Celebration. The Hampshire Hills Neighborhood Association (HHNA) and the Greater Providence Baptist Church will host an event celebrating HHNA accomplishments with support from a City of Charlotte Neighborhood Matching Grant (NMG) award. Accomplishments through May 4, 2019, will include new signage enhancing the location and identification of the Hampshire Hills neighborhood, improved newsletters and greater community involvement of residents and surrounding neighborhoods and businesses. Highlights of the event will include brief remarks by elected and local leaders, as well as exhibits depicting the story of the Hampshire Hills neighborhood through music, dance and pictures as Charlotte celebrates its 250th birthday!
